John Gearing and Nicky Hazell were among the first to move in at Abbotsley. Since then they have embraced their new lifestyle to the full.
John is a successful former Chartered Surveyor who sold his Bishops Stortford practice three years ago. John was looking for a change of direction, but for business reasons he needed to stay close to the area. “My extensive property interests in the area mean I’m frequently away overnight, but I escape back to Abbotsley whenever I can!” says John.
John and Nicky own a river cruiser that they moor at a nearby marina on the River Great Ouse in St Neots. “One of our great pleasures is cruising, that most tranquil of pastimes,” says Nicky. “We meander along, watching the wonderful wildlife and stopping for lunch at one of the many local riverside pubs. When the grandchildren stay over, they can’t wait to get down to the boat!”
John is impressed by how little maintenance their lodge needs. “Even the gardening is done for us, which is ideal for a second home,” he notes. “This gives us more time to enjoy our leisure to the full, whether it’s a round at one of the neighbouring golf clubs, or classic car rallying in our beloved MGB.”
“Life at Abbotsley is great fun, with interesting people who all want to enjoy life with as little hassle as possible,” says Nicky. She and John are thrilled with their Norwegian Log lodge. “As a Chartered Surveyor I should know”, says John. “I’ve examined countless different properties in my professional life, and I’m happy to spend as much time as I can at our lodge at Abbotsley.”
